In this post, I lay out a simple strategy for making money from a free website without investing a nickle. This article is meant to be a companion to the free training you get with your free website if you use the website builder linked below. I suggest you bookmark this page as there are a lot of links in this article and you’ll want to be sure you can find your way back.
Please understand that it is always better to have a paid website with a custom domain which you own. However, if you can’t put any money into your business, here’s a way to get started. When you’re making money, upgrade to a paid website and hosting.
The free website I recommend will easily upgrade to a paid website without losing any of your content, backlinks, ranking factors or work.
The biggest reason you want to own your website is that the work you put into it makes it valuable. Your website will increase in value as it ages and as it generates money. When you build an internet business on a free website, it’s like building a business on someone else’s property. You do not have full control of your investment.
When you own your website, you can move it to any other hosing provider and still have the same website. You can even sell it. The more work you do on your site, the more valuable it will be.
How to Make Money with a Free Website.
There is nothing complicated or mysterious about building a profitable website, although it can be labor intensive and some of the tasks are a bit repetitive, particularly when you’re doing it for free.
Here’s an overview of the steps for building a profitable online business without spending a dime. Later in this article, each step will be covered in more detail.
The Foundation.
- Create a free website.
- Create a Google Account, YouTube Channel & G+ Account.
- Join Affiliate Programs.
The Strategy.
- Write a review article about a product, include an affiliate link and publish the review to your website.
- Make a video review of the same product, add an affiliate link in the description and publish it to YouTube.
- Publish a condensed version of the review on G+ that links back to the original review on your website.
- Repeat
Create a Free Website.

Join Affiliate Programs.
Starting out, I recommend you join ClickBank.com and Amazon.com. Their approval is easy and automatic, and they both have a vast inventory of products.
Write & Publish Product Review.
Find a product to review. If you are an affiliate for Amazon or Clickbank, search those websites for a product to review. Or, you may own products you can review that are also available on Amazon or Clickbank.
Before you write a product review, be sure people are searching for it in Google. A free way to do this is to type the product name into Google and see what variations of the product name are suggested.
If Google makes suggestions and if there are ads associated with the product name, you can be sure people are searching for it. Another way is to use the Google Keyword Planner to see how many searches are made for the product each month.
When you have a product in mind, get your affiliate link for that product and save the link in a spread sheet or note pad. You’ll need it as you write your article.
When you write your article, write in a friendly, conversational tone as if you and the visitor are having a casual chat over a cup of coffee. Pretend the visitor is your best friend.
Write your review speaking to the reader’s emotions. People buy when their emotions are triggered and later use logic to justify their purchase. Show how their life will be easier if they purchase the product and focus on the benefits the product offers.
A feature is something the product has, but a benefit is something the owner will enjoy. For example, a feature of a cordless electric shaver is that it doesn’t have to be plugged into an electric outlet. A benefit of a cordless electric shaver is you can shave anywhere. Focus on benefits and show the reader what’s in it for them.
The length of a review can range from 500 words to 1500 and longer. Without padding your article, try for at least 1000 words. If writing doesn’t come easily to you, write at least 500 words per article until you gain confidence.
You might hesitate to write a product review, particularly if you don’t own the product you are reviewing. However, there is no reason to balk at writing a review on a product you don’t own. Click Here for Training About Writing Reviews.
In about three places in the article, add your affiliate link to hyperlinked text. For example, you might write something like, “You can buy the WhizBangSmoothieMaker here.” The final word, “here” is hyperlinked to your affiliate link.
Publish your review article to your website and include a featured image with the title of your article as the alt tag and at least one image inside the article with the title of your article as the image alt tag. (It’s important to have a feature image with the alt tag as this will help your article rank higher and drive more traffic to your site, plus when we link to it from G+, it will help your G+ post rank higher).
The details of writing review articles, posting images, alt tags, and hyperlinked text are covered in the training that comes with your free website.
Most of your reviews (90%) should be for products selling for less than a hundred dollars. Affordable products have more sales and will drive more traffic to your site. For every ten reviews, you write, write a review for a product selling for more than a hundred dollars. These will pay a higher commission.
Create a Video Review & Post to YT.
It takes very little to make a video, and you can do it for free.
When I started out, I condensed my review to a few PowerPoint slides, wrote a brief script, and recorded myself reading the script using the built-in mike on my laptop. I then recorded the slides. Click Here for Training About Making a Video from PowerPoint.
If your PC does not have PowerPoint, you can make slides in OpenOffice, a free program.
When it’s ready, upload your video to YouTube. Click Here for Training About Optimizing a Video for YouTube.
Post the Review to G+.
When you post your review to G+, be sure to include the meta title and meta description at the top of the G+ post. (Meta title and meta description are taught in the free training).
Beneath this text, skip a line and write “For more information, click on the image.” Skip a line and write another 100 words about the review. G+ posts rank much better if they have 100 to 200 words of text.
That’s it!
The Secret to Making this Work.
The more reviews you publish, the more successful you will be. Publishing two reviews a week is ideal. If you can, publish more.
Each review you write is like an invitation sent to everyone on the planet to come visit your website. The more invitations you send out, the more people will visit.
It’s helpful to create a checklist of tasks to perform, so you will always know where you are in the process.
You can always add links to your review to other social media sites too. The more, the merrier.
You have to beat the search engines silly with content before they get the idea and start helping you. With the strategy presented here, the key to success is writing lots and lots of reviews.
This strategy works, but you probably won’t see results for weeks or months. That is the nature of online marketing. Even with a paid website, it takes the search engines time to trust your website and understand how it compares to other sites.
The Final Word.
You might think this is a lot of work. Maybe you’re asking yourself if there is an easier way. Maybe you’re still searching for a magic button that will make you rich without lifting a finger or spending a dime.
There is no such thing as a magic button that will make you rich. However, you can use this strategy to create an income stream and then invest your money into building an internet empire.
The internet is the greatest opportunity most of us will ever have to fulfill our potential and enjoy financial freedom. It can start right here, right now with a free website.
I hope this article will continually evolve. If you have questions or insight into how I can improve the content here, please let me know in the comments. I’m happy to answer your questions too.
